• The label was created for the high school band the Illusions, who were based out of the South Shore town of Randolph.
• The label name was a literal family portmanteau. The band’s principal songwriter was a teenager named Ron. His parents, who financed the entire endeavor so the boys could have their own physical record, were named Barney and Mary—hence, BAR-MAR.
